History and Practices of the Claude Garton Herbarium, and Future of the Herbarium in the 21st Century,  Emma Lehmberg, Curator, Claude Garton Herbarium and Lada Malek, Professor Emeritus, Biology Department, LU

In its 50th year, the Claude Garton Herbarium has been a part of Lakehead University’s Biology department since 1967 and has a collection of 110 000 vascular plants as well as 14 950 mosses, lichens, and hepatics. Beginning with Claude Garton’s collections in the 1910s, the specimens provide a comprehensive picture of the changing distributions, populations, and species that make up the Thunder Bay regional flora. Acting curator Emma Lehmberg and professor emeritus Lada Malek will speak about the history, practices, and future of the herbarium in the 21st century.
