Spring migration monitoring began on May 1 and ran continuously until June 11. A total of 1900 individuals of 87 species/forms were banded. There were 9 recaptures of birds banded at TCBO in previous years and one foreign recapture of a Blue jay banded in Minnesota the previous fall. A cabin was constructed this July to provide housing for the Program Coordinator and hiw wife (John & Maureen). Among other activities this season feather samples were collected from migratory songbirds to contribute to the project: Population, Structure and Conservation of Neotropical Migrant Birds.
Spring 2006 Highlights:

Harlequin Duck: 2 observed on May 8
Whip-poor Will: 2 heard singing May 14
Green-tailed Towhee banded on June 10, is a new species for Thunder Bay District
First ever banded at the Cape in the Spring were: Herring Gull (3), Ring-billed Gull (8), Northern Harrier, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Horned lark, Green-tailed Towhee and Prairie Warbler.
Unusual species banded were Eastern Wood-pewee, Western Meadowlark, Vesper Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, LeConte's Sparrow, House Sparrow (2), Northern Mockingbird, Gray Catbird (3) and Brown Thrasher (4).
Highest Spring Banding Totals were achieved for American Goldfinch (69), Lapland Longspur (3), Veery (18), Swainson's Thrush (50) and Eastern Bluebird (7).
