Red Rock Lookout Nature Reserve

In 2018 TBFN was pleased to accept a donation of conservation land in the town of Red Rock. The 226 acre upland forested area overlooks the Nipigon River mouth and Lake Superior shore just north of the town. The property, part of the holdings of a forestry company no longer active in the area, was generously donated to TBFN as a way to protect this asset for the community.

The new Red Rock Lookout Nature Reserve protects part of the popular Nipigon River Hiking Trail. The trail, built and maintained by the Land of the Nipigon Waterway Development Association, provides easy public access to the property. The TBFN Reserve begins at the southern (Red Rock) end of the trail. The hiking path winds through mature forest to a viewing platform at Lloyd’s Lookout. From here visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the islands of Nipigon Bay. Peregrine Falcons and American White Pelicans are sometimes seen flying below.
