Great Horned Owl

Great Horned Owl

This young Great Horned Owl fledged on Friday, May 25th, 2001 at Lappe, Ontario. It went missing for four days and was subsequently discovered at an overgrown field in the woods half a kilometre from the nest. It was photographed there as it sat just a couple of feet off the ground on a fallen down tree. It later moved deeper into the woods and was discovered two more times on tree branches. It had been able to climb to a height of twenty feet, first along a dead tree that was leaning against a branch of a larger live tree, and then along a branch of the live tree even higher.
