Disappearing Sunflower Seeds

Have you ever noticed that your sunflower seed feeder has mostly empty shells in it? Squirrels and chipmunks regularly find they way into feeders and munch away until every last seed is eaten. They even eat they way through plastic or wood to get into the feeder. And if the seeds seem to just disappear overnight, the culprit might be a Northern Flying Squirrel. This one was caught in the act late one moonlit evening when it was noticed by chance from a kitchen window.
