Marathon Christmas Bird Count – 2015

The Marathon Christmas Bird Count was held on Sunday, Jan 3.  There were 10 participants (8 in the field & 2 feeder watchers) & ended up with 23 species on count day, 770 individuals; just under the average from all previous counts (26 species, 1093 individuals from 38 previous CBC's in Marathon).

It was a record high year for the number of Ruffed Grouse ever seen on a CBC in Marathon (next closest was in 1999 (6)).

A Northern Shrike showed up in a backyard day after the count, that brought the count week tally up to 24.

(No snipe again this year unfortunately.)
